Asalamu alaykum Wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
I was sitting down today listening to a talk By Sheikh Ibrahim Madani ( May Allah swt preserve him) about the importance of learning the Arabic language and there was one point in particular that that I wanted to share with you all. He was talking about the miracles of earlier Prophets and explained that only after a few generations from the time of a miracle, they merely become stories that one believes in based on eye witness accounts. It definitely doesn’t compare to being there and seeing it with one’s own eyes . As Muslims we believe in the miracles of earlier Prophets(as) because of the Qur’an and the authenticated words of the Prophet (saw).
Now coming to the miracle of the Qur’an ,
The greatest miracle that the Prophet (saw) claimed is the Qur’an and it's divine origins. It is a linguistic miracle and no one till this day has produced the like of it, even though the challenge of producing only 3 verses “like it” is open to All.
The Qur’an is with us yet many don’t see the Qur’an as a linguistic miracle. Most Muslims believe the Qur’an is a linguistic miracle however they dont witness it themselves.
Now the point I am getting at is that one could remain in a position of just believing the Qur,an is a miracle or one can actually witness this miracle today.
How?
By learning the Arabic language at a deep level. It’s not impossible and many non Arabs have become masters in the Arabic language. It’s never too late to start learning the language.
The Sheikh then talked about following the Sunnah of the Prophet (s).He says "No doubt that learning to speak the language of the Qur’an and the language of the Prophet (saw) is one of the great Sunnahs that is missing in the lives of most Muslims Today."
It’s interesting that many Great Arabic scholars in the past were non Arabs, Sibaway, Ibn Ajrum to mention a few.Arabic scholars past and present have fallen in love with the Qur’an and it’s beauty.
Witnessing the Qur’anic miracle is in our hands!
Insh’Allah If Allah (swt) wills I plan to write a bit more about the linguistic miracle of the Qur’an. I will definitely not do justice but saying something is better than not saying anything. I will rely mostly from the words of the famous Iraqi Grammarian, Dr Fadl Asamaraiy. He has written many books and even has a TV program called Lamasat Bayaniyah on U.A.E TV.
I pray that Allah (swt) accepts this from me and that he will forgive my shortcomings. Ameen!
